Lithuania: Russian arson attempt at Starlink storage

Russia was likely responsible for an arson incident at a storage facility for satellite communications equipment in Lithuania on 18 October 2026, Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius announced, LRT reports. He said that incendiary liquids and containers were found at the facility, which stored satellite antennas and a control unit for Starlink equipment. Vilmantas Vitkauskas, director of the National Crisis Management Centre (NKVC), said that the fire only caused minor damage, Reuters reported. Authorities had warned the storage company about possible attacks and security had been raised, Sinkevicius said. He stated that the incident was “clearly an attempted act of sabotage” and part of Russia’s hybrid warfare. Sinkevicius has called a meeting of the National Security Commission (NSK) to discuss the attempted arson and a drone crash in northern Lithuania. The drone exploded and debris hit a moving car in the Pasvalys municipality on 18 October 2026, LRT reports.
