US President Donald Trump has nominated Keith Noreika to serve as the new US ambassador to Lithuania, LRT reports. If confirmed by the US Senate, Noreika will replace career diplomat Kara McDonald, who has served as ambassador since 2024. Noreika is a corporate lawyer specialising in financial regulation. He has served as executive deputy president and head of the banking supervision and regulation group at the Washington-based financial services consultancy, Patomak Global Partners, since 2022. During Trump’s first presidency, Noreika served briefly as acting Comptroller of the Currency in charge of overseeing US national banks. He has Lithuanian ancestry. In the meantime, more than 1,000 US troops with equipment have begun withdrawing from Lithuania following the end of their deployment rotation, BNS reports. The US has not confirmed the timing and size of a replacement rotation so far, which may result in a longer gap without US troop presence in Lithuania.
