The Baltic States are likely to see a more than 2% decline in GDP per year due to poor mental health over 2025-2050, according to a new report from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), ERR reports. The projected drop in GDP in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania will be the highest of all the OECD and EU countries studied. The report projects that the poor mental health situation in all three Baltic countries will result in a reduction of life expectancy of more than five months over 2025-2050. According to the study, income‑related disparities in depressive symptoms are the largest observed for men in Estonia and for women in Lithuania and Latvia. The report noted that the consumption of antidepressants more than doubled in Estonia and Latvia over 2013-2023.
