The number of unemployed people in Estonia totalled 52,200 in the first quarter of 2026, which was 5,100 more than in the fourth quarter of 2025, but much lower than in the first quarter of 2025, according to data from Statistics Estonia, ERR reports. Estonia’s unemployment rate stood at 7.1%, which was up 0.7 percentage points over a quarter, but down 1.5 percentage points over a year. Unemployment was highest in Harjumaa county (excluding Tallinn) and South Estonia (both 5.7%) and highest in Ida-Virumaa county (11.6%). Meanwhile, the number of employed people totalled 686,300 in the first quarter of 2026, which was 2,300 fewer than a quarter earlier, but 4,700 more than a year earlier. Estonia’s employment rate stood at 68%, which was down on quarter, but up on year.
