Baltic: Ukraine ready to help prevent drone incidents

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha confirmed that drones that recently crashed in Latvian territory came from Ukraine, Ukrinform reported. Sybiha said that Russian electronic warfare had deliberately diverted the drones from their intended targets in Russia. He said that Ukraine was ready to send specialists to the Baltic States and Finland to prevent such incidents.

Meanwhile, Janis Sarts, director of NATO’s Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence, noted that the Latvian reaction to the drone incidents signalled to Russia that Latvia was easily provoked and lacked an effective response, LSM reported. Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis pointed out that the problem with detecting incoming drones was not unique to Latvia.

Estonia expects Ukraine to improve control over its drones, such as with so-called kill switches, Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur stated, ERR reports. Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna noted that while Ukraine had the right to strike Russian targets, the Estonian government was worried about the possibility of more serious accidents, including civilian casualties.

Speaking after meeting visiting Ukrainian presidential administration chief Kyrylo Budanov, Lithuanian Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas announced that Lithuania would invite Ukrainian specialists to advise on countering drones, BNS reported. Kaunas said that the Defence Ministry was developing an anti-drone defence concept in cooperation with Ukraine, BNS reported.
