Estonia: 41% of electricity consumed in Q1/2026 imported

Estonia’s electricity consumption totalled 2,568 GWh in the first quarter of 2026, according to transmission system operator Elering, ERR reports. Electricity imports totalled 1,064 GWh, covering 41% of consumption. Estonia’s domestic production of electricity totalled 1,504 GWh, which was 7% less than a year earlier. Production of electricity from renewable sources totalled 951 GWh (down 3%), accounting for 61% of total production. Renewable electricity covered nearly 36% (40%) of total consumption. Biomass, biogas, and waste accounted for 384 GWh (42%), wind power for 364 GWh (40%), solar power for 159 GWh (17%), and hydro power for 7 GWh of total renewable electricity production. Electricity production from solar power rose by 21%, while electricity production from wind power fell by 12% on year.
