Estonia: Eagle S anchor found on seabed

An anchor belonging to the Russian “shadow fleet” oil tanker, Eagle S, which is suspected of damaging several undersea cables in the Baltic Sea, has been retrieved from the seabed, YLE reports. The anchor was raised by the Swedish Navy’s submarine rescue ship, Belos. Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation (KRP) will now begin analysing the anchor. KRP suspects that Eagle S severed the EstLink 2 power cable between Finland and Estonia and damaged four telecommunication cables. Earlier, authorities found marks showing that the anchor was dragged for almost 100 km along the sea floor. Meanwhile, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) is concluding a port state control inspection to assess the ship’s technical condition, environmental compliance, documentation, and working conditions.
