The education inequality gap is widening between generations in Estonia, according to a new study, ERR reports. The Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) test shows that education inequality is growing faster in Estonia than in other OECD countries. Inequality has deepened in terms of education, language, and especially age. Young people’s skills have improved significantly, whereas the skills of people over 55 years have deteriorated over a decade. Self-assessment of health, trust in government, participation in volunteer work, and civic engagement are very low among people with lower skills. Experts warn that the widening generational gap may lead to social exclusion and political polarisation. The PIAAC test assesses literacy, numeracy, and problem solving.
