Estonian entrepreneur Urmas Sõõrumaa has withdrawn his candidacy for mayor of Tallinn, ERR reports. Earlier, Sõõrumaa proposed forming a technocratic city government that would follow guidelines from the Estonian Reform Party and the Estonian Centre Party (Keskerakond) until the local elections in October 2025. Reform’s current coalition partner, the Social Democratic Party (SDE), accused Reform of entering into a secret pact with the Centre Party. Reform chairman, Prime Minister Kristen Michal, said that the party would exit the four-party ruling coalition in Tallinn and vote in favour of a no-confidence motion against the city’s incumbent mayor, SDE’s Jevgeni Ossinovski, ERR reports. Tallinn would thus be ruled by a minority coalition of SDE, Fatherland (Isamaa), and Estonia 200 until the elections, Michal explained. He noted that Reform had never ruled out cooperation with the Centre Party in Tallinn, nor was likely to do so after the elections. Meanwhile, Ossinovski urged Reform to return to the ruling coalition and ruled out talks with the Centre Party.
