A majority of members of the Estonian parliament, the Riigikogu, have signed a letter of protest against China’s new “law on ethnic unity,” BNS reported. In the letter sent to the Chinese embassy in Tallinn, the MPs noted that the law was aimed at assimilating ethnic minorities living in China, including Mongols, Tibetans, and Uyghurs. They strongly condemned the law, insisting that it lacked moral legitimacy, and demanded that the law be repealed. The letter urged the United Nations to review China’s assimilation policy and take measures to prevent further violations of cultural, linguistic, and religious rights in China. The letter was signed by altogether 51 MPs from almost all parties represented in the Riigikogu.
