Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics has begun consultations with parliamentary groups on forming a new government, Baltic News reports. The President stressed the need to ensure political stability, effective governance, and national security continuity. The discussions are focused on how to build a working coalition in the parliament, the Saeima, and on the future direction of Latvia’s defence and security policy. One potential coalition being discussed is between the National Alliance, the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS), and United List. Outgoing Prime Minister Evika Silina’s cabinet will continue as a caretaker government for now. The next parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held in October 2026. Meanwhile, Kaspars Gorkss, director general of the Confederation of Latvian Employers (LDDK), said that the next government must reduce government spending, cut bureaucracy, open the labour market, curb the shadow economy, and invest in R&D, LETA reported.
