Latvia’s national airline, airBaltic, plans to make around 100 pilots and 200 cabin crew members redundant, LSM reports. The company said that the staff cuts were based on the airline’s planned flight volume and route network for 2027. The airline will downsize its fleet to 36 aircraft by the end of 2026, but plans to increase the fleet again to 40 aircraft by 2030, LSM reports. Meanwhile, the Latvian Aviation Union (LAA) questioned the selection criteria and terms for the planned redundancies, alleging that the company was pressuring staff to resign voluntarily, LETA reported. Earlier, airBaltic estimated that it would lay off 500-700 employees at its bases in Riga, Tallinn, and Vilnius, LSM reported.
