Latvia needs to set a maximum price cap on the Rail Baltica railway project, Prime Minister Evika Silina stated, LETA reports. Speaking at a meeting of a parliamentary committee of inquiry on the project, Silina stressed that the biggest problem right now was funding. She said that the Ministry of Transport was “painting visions” and assuming that the Ministry of Finance would finance everything. Instead, it was necessary to lower all costs, the Prime Minister insisted. The Rail Baltica railway would have to be integrated with Latvia’s existing railway infrastructure with the resources that were currently available, she added. Silina said that she would evaluate the work done by Transport Minister Kaspars Briskens “very carefully” and expected the Ministry of Transport to provide a new management model for Rail Baltica. At the same time, other ministries would need to play bigger roles in the project, Silina concluded.
