Hackers have stolen large amounts of sensitive data from Latvia’s state forest management company, Latvijas Valsts Mezi (LVM), LETA reports. Baiba Kaskina, head of Latvia’s Cyber Incident Response Institution (CERT.LV), suggested that that the attack appeared to have been commercially motivated, LSM reported. A foreign ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs said that the hackers gained access to LVM’s IT systems on 11 June 2026 and began extracting data on 22 June 2026, LETA reported. CERT.LV said that the hackers had leaked 44 GB of data so far, but that the total volume of stolen data was likely to be much bigger. Authorities assured that data related to Latvia’s election system, part of which is developed by LVM, was not compromised in the incident, LETA reported.
