Latvia: More consumers pay cash in autumn 2025: survey

Non-cash payments accounted for 74% of consumer payments in Latvia in August 2025, which was down from record 78% in February 2025, according to the Bank of Latvia’s latest payment radar survey conducted by Latvijas Fakti, The Baltic Times reports. Meanwhile, cash payments accounted for 26% (22%) of all payments. In recent years, the share of non-cash payments has remained stable at above 75%. The average number of payments per capita was 17.9 per week in August 2025, which was up from 14.1 in February 2025. The survey showed that 58% (62%) use contactless payment cards regularly, while 20% (24%) pay using smartphones. Moreover, 38% (34%) of consumers use instant payments daily.
