Latvia: NATO deploys troops to eastern Latvia

The Canadian-led NATO Multinational Brigade will expand its presence to eastern Latvia, deploying troops in the city of Daugavpils for the first time, LSM reported. Allied forces will be stationed permanently elsewhere in the eastern Latgale region as well, according to the Latvian Defence Ministry’s news portal, Sargs.lv. Also, Danish Defence Minister Jeppe Bruus announced that Denmark would deploy ​a battalion of 850 troops to Latvia in autumn 2026, Reuters reported. The battalion will take over from a Swedish contingent and will be attached to the NATO brigade headquartered in Adazi, The Copenhagen Post reported. Meanwhile, the Latvian National Armed Forces (NBS) has begun installing anti-mobility barriers on the border with Russia, LSM reports. In addition, NBS will build anti-tank ditches.
