A rail link to the Latvian capital, Riga, is planned to be built in the second phase of the Rail Baltica railway project, Marko Kivila, CEO of the Baltic joint venture, RB Rail, told LETA. He noted that the Baltic States had not agreed on a timetable for the second phase yet. There would be more time to discuss the project’s second phase once the first phase reached a stable stage of implentation, Kivila said. The first phase includes the construction of Rail Baltica’s main line by 2030. Kivila urged Latvia to open a shuttle train service to connect Riga to the main line.
