If the war in Ukraine comes to a halt, Russia may have a window of opportunity to attack NATO countries in 2027-2029, according to Kaspars Pudans, commander-in-chief of the Latvian National Armed Forces (NBS), Nasha Niva reports. Speaking in an interview with Deutsche Welle, Pudans said that the most probable scenario was that Russia would redeploy forces to NATO’s eastern borders. He estimated that Russia’s window for aggression would close after 2030, noting that while Russia would become stronger, so would Europe and NATO. Pudans dismissed the suggestion that Russia could create “separatist republics” in the Baltic States. Russia has already lost the element of surprise and has been resorting to sabotage and intimidation because they have no other tools, he said.
