Latvia: Seven big competition violations in 2025

Latvia’s Competition Council concluded seven high-priority cases on violations of and non-compliance with competition law in 2025, LSM reports. Total fines issued in the cases amounted to EUR 2.5mn, according to the council’s annual report. The public benefit increased by around 25% over a year, the Competition Council estimated. The biggest sanctions included a EUR 1.87mn fine imposed on supermarket operator Maxima Latvija and over EUR 500,000 of fines on five construction companies that participated in procurements for utility repair and construction works. The Competition Council’s key priorities for 2026 include detecting and preventing the most serious competition law violations, monitoring sectors with significant public interest, and modernising and digitalising its operations.
