Lithuania: Swedbank cuts GDP growth forecast

Lithuania’s GDP will grow by 3% in 2026 and 2.3% in 2027, according to Swedbank’s latest macroeconomic outlook, BNS reports. In January 2026, the bank projected that GDP growth would reach 3.5% in 2026 and 2.5% in 2027. Nerijus Maciulis, Swedbank’s chief economist, said that growth would be spurred by consumption, strong exports, and record manufacturing output. Meanwhile, the bank now expects Lithuania’s annual inflation to reach 5.2% in 2026, up sharply from its earliest forecast of 3.5%. Maciulis said that prices were increasing due to higher oil and fuel costs, tax changes, rapidly increasing labour costs. Swedbank forecasts average wages to rise by 8% in 2026, which is unchanged from its previous projection. The annual unemployment rate will reach 6.8%, which is slightly below the earlier estimate of 7%. In 2027, wages will grow by 7%, the bank projects.
