Latvia: Two-tier system set up for drone alerts

The Latvian National Armed Forces (NBS) has introduced a new two-tier system for mobile alerts informing the public of potential security threats, LSM reports. Alerts are now either yellow or orange, depending on the assessed seriousness of the threat. Yellow alerts will warn of possible threats in Latvian airspace requiring no immediate action from residents, while orange alerts will notify residents of a detected threat in Latvian airspace requiring immediate action to seek shelter. The highest level of public security alarm in Latvia is a red alert, issued when the government declares a state of emergency, according to LSM. Earlier, Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics questioned the need to send mobile alerts to residents every time there was a possible drone incursion, LSM reported. He pointed out that not all threats were serious enough to stop public transport, businesses, and schools.
