Lithuania: EU Commission approves EUR 153mn of recovery funds

The European Commission has approved an additional EUR 153mn in funding for Lithuania under the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), BNS reports. The funds are due to be disbursed in July 2026. So far, Lithuania has received EUR 2.69bn under its national recovery plan. Lithuania will submit its final RRF payment request in September 2026. Meanwhile, the National Audit Office (LRVK) warned that Lithuania risked breaking EU fiscal rules, BNS reported. The general government deficit could reach around 3% of GDP by 2028 and exceed the threshold in 2029. Public debt could rise from 45% to 55.3% of GDP over 2026-2029, the office estimated. Auditor General Irena Segaloviciene said that the government may eventually have to choose between funding national defence and maintaining other public services.
