Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda sees “no possibility” for any negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the moment, BNS reports. Speaking at a joint press conference with visiting Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Nauseda insisted that conversations with Putin could only begin when Russia “clearly demonstrates” that it wants to end the war against Ukraine. “Attempts to talk without Russia fulfilling even minimal conditions have ended in failure,” Nauseda noted. “Cease hostilities, seek a truce, and only then can something be discussed with the Kremlin regime,” he stated. On his part, Stubb suggested that European leaders should speak directly with Russia. “Sometimes you simply have to engage in uncomfortable conversations to end a war,” he insisted. Meanwhile, the two presidents stressed the need to strengthen air defences in the region, following recent accidental incursions of Ukrainian drones into Baltic and Finnish airspace, BNS reported.
