Lithuania’s State Security Department (VSD) has warned against proposals to resume transit shipments of Belarusian fertilisers through the port of Klaipeda, BNS reports. VSD director Remigijus Bridikis noted that such a move would contravene EU sanctions without reducing security threats posed by Belarus. He stressed that the Belarusian regime had not changed its policies of repression, weaponised migration, and military cooperation with Russia. Weakening the sanctions regime would not make the regime ready to change its behaviour, Bridikis insisted. Earlier, Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys confirmed that Lithuania was discussing the issue with the United States. However, Lithuania’s and the EU’s position remained that there was no reason to review the sanctions on Belarusian fertilisers at the moment, he added. Earlier, the US Department of State asked Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine to lift restrictions on export shipments of Belarusian potash through their territories.
