Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry has proposed expanding national sanctions against Russian and Belarusian citizens, BNS reports. Under the proposed draft legislation, Russian and Belarusian individuals and organisations would be barred from public cultural or sports events in Lithuania if they have operated in Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine, directly or indirectly support the war against Ukraine, or contribute to Russian propaganda. Russian and Belarusian nationals seeking to enter Lithuania for public events would have to sign a public declaration condemning Russia’s aggression against Ukraine or be denied entry. Also, Russian and Belarusian citizens residing in Lithuania would be prohibited from purchasing property near national security facilities or military training grounds. The amendments would take effect on 1 January 2027.
