Baltic: Politico ranks commissioners in outgoing European Commission

European news portal Politico ranked the performance of Lithuania’s EU commissioner, Virginijus Sinkevicius, highest of the three Baltic members of the outgoing European Commission, ERR reports. The outlet gave Sinkevicius, who served as the European Commissioner for Environment in 2019-2024, a score of A minus. Latvia’s Valdis Dombrovskis, who is staying on as EC Vice President, scored C plus, while Estonia’s Kadri Simson, outgoing European Commissioner for Energy, scored C minus. Politico noted that Sinkevicius, the youngest-ever EU commissioner, performed well in a relatively difficult portfolio, highlighting his “massive political achievement” in pushing through the EU’s Green Deal legislation. By contrast, Dombrovskis lacked the power to make a difference, the outlet stated. Politico commended Simson for her “quiet competence” in advancing complex legislation without any major crises.
